Florida is pursuing an ambitious initiative to become a global leader in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), as articulated by the Florida Department of Transportation secretary Jared Perdue. The state is focusing on establishing the necessary infrastructure, technology, workforce, and regulatory policies to attract and support AAM operations. This effort is moving rapidly, with current applications including utilizing drones for essential functions like law enforcement, emergency response, infrastructure inspection, and package deliveries, especially for damage assessment following natural disasters.
The next-generation aircraft are key to the business aviation sector’s united goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Florida’s civic leaders aim to be part of this future, underscored by a $4 billion investment into transportation infrastructure approved by Governor Ron DeSantis. The Florida DOT is actively collaborating with AAM industry leaders, universities, airports, and local governments to make this future transportation mode a reality.
