The House Committee on Agriculture released a draft Farm Bill on February 13, that formally recognizes sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as an advanced renewable resource, requiring the USDA to implement a unified roadmap for its industry-wide production and adoption. This plan focuses on uniting different agricultural sectors to refine the supply chain by transforming farm harvests into usable energy.

Beyond technical production advances for SAF, the mandate emphasizes the economic revitalization of rural areas by involving local producers and foresters in the market’s expansion. Ultimately, the bill seeks to accelerate the commercial availability of SAF by bridging the gap between public oversight and private enterprise.

Sustainable aviation fuels have the potential to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions from aviation by up to 80% over legacy fuels.
