U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) writes in Ag Week that the United States stands in an ideal position to pioneer the international market for sustainable aviation fuel. By capitalizing on the abundant agricultural outputs of local farmers and advanced bioenergy expertise, the country can successfully manufacture high-performing alternatives to conventional kerosene. This transition not only secures greater energy autonomy for the nation but also offers massive economic revitalization to rural communities by establishing new markets for biomass and raw waste materials.

The senator explains that to realize this potential without falling behind international competitors, federal lawmakers must enact stable, long-term tax structures to give private investors confidence to construct advanced processing facilities. Additionally, reducing bureaucratic red tape and permitting a broader range of organic feedstocks will enable producers to ramp up operations.

Sustainable aviation fuels are key to energy independence, and also to opening up opportunities for job creation in the tech, agriculture and other sectors.
