Textron Aviation has aligned with Signature Aviation to orchestrate a massive volunteer initiative to assist participants of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Recognized as the largest peacetime airlift in the world, the joint venture is mobilizing over 100 business aviation aircraft owners and pilots across the country.
These volunteer aviators are donating their business aircraft, fuel and time to transport more than 800 athletes and coaches to Minnesota’s Twin Cities, eliminating the logistical and financial roadblocks that often prevent teams from attending national competitions.
To streamline the comprehensive logistical undertaking, Signature Aviation will serve as the exclusive fixed base operator (FBO) sponsor, managing flight services and providing hospitality from 17 separate departure airports. A dedicated aircraft hangar at St. Paul Downtown Airport Holman Field is being transformed into a specialized reception space named the Champion Center to welcome the incoming delegations. During the peak travel windows, participating aircraft—referred to internally as “Doves”—are scheduled to take off or land every three minutes, demonstrating an intense level of precision and industry collaboration to honor the traveling competitors.
Independent studies point out that business aircraft fly up to 15,000 hours per year for humanitarian missions. For some companies, these flights account for as much as a quarter of their operations.
