Bye Aerospace has achieved a key milestone in its aircraft development program by completing the inaugural flight of its conforming all-electric eFlyer 2 prototype. Operating out of Centennial Airport near Denver, CO, the aircraft logged a brief initial flight around the airport pattern to evaluate its baseline control handling and validate years of preliminary engineering.
Test pilot feedback confirmed that the battery-powered trainer performed as expected, marking the formal start of an expanding flight test campaign to establish the aircraft’s full performance capabilities.
The successful maiden flight serves as a major step toward fulfilling an extensive combined order book exceeding 1,000 units for the company’s two-seat and four-seat electric aircraft models. Flight schools across the United States constitute a substantial portion of these prospective orders, drawn by projections that the zero-emission platform could reduce operating expenses by up to 80% compared to conventional combustion-powered training aircraft like the Cessna 172. Engineered for efficiency, the production design is anticipated to achieve a maximum speed of roughly 135 knots and a total flight endurance exceeding three hours.
eVTOL aircraft are powered by true-zero propulsion technologies – batteries and hydrogen fuel cells, instead of conventional combustion engines – making them a carbon-free form of air transportation for a variety of mission applications.
