Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield joined community leaders and business executives to celebrate the grand opening of a new terminal and hangar complex at Coleman A. Young International Airport. Developed by Avflight, the project marks a significant milestone as the first brand-new facility built at the site in approximately 60 years.

The modern complex stands as one of the most substantial private investments the airport has received in decades. This activity boosts the regional economy even as the new facility promotes construction and aviation employment.

The 24-hour facility features a 5,000 square-foot fixed-base operator terminal alongside a twenty-thousand-square-foot heated hangar capable of sheltering business aircraft. Looking ahead, airport management intends to leverage these infrastructure upgrades to explore emerging aviation technology, including potential pilot programs for electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or eVTOLs. The project is part of a broader revitalization plan for the airport, which also encompasses upcoming runway renovations, airfield technical enhancements, and the autumn debut of the Benjamin Davis Aerospace Academy to foster local career development.

Business aviation in the U.S. and globally is on a mission to grow the economy and create meaningful, rewarding careers in one of the world’s most vital industries.
