A newly established non-profit organization called First Generation Pilots made its official debut at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026. Founded by Lucas de Jager, Augustas Senuta, Logan Laier, and Tyler Svrusis, the entity focuses on assisting individuals pursuing flight careers without family background or prior connections in the industry.
To help newcomers surmount steep financial hurdles, absent professional networks and complex career pathways, the initiative offers structured mentorship, funding opportunities, local events, and strategic industry partnerships.
The foundation originated in 2024 as a student-led group at the University of North Dakota, where it rapidly expanded to include over 300 active participants and established a $10,000 scholarship program within two years. Now serving as the inaugural chapter of the broader national organization, the campus group provides the template for future expansion. Moving forward, the leadership team aims to set up additional collegiate chapters across the country while recruiting flight mentors and corporate sponsors to build a robust nationwide support network for new aviators.
