Minnesota farmers are increasingly incorporating winter camelina into their crop rotations to tap into the burgeoning sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market, testing it as an alternative to soybeans or alfalfa. While production is currently small-scale as growers evaluate feasibility, industry leaders believe the state is well-positioned to become a global SAF hub thanks to its diverse agriculture, strong renewable fuels infrastructure, and key partnerships. The fuels dramatically reduce lifecycle greenhouse emissions from aircraft, while also creating jobs in the agriculture and tech sectors and bolstering America’s energy independence.
