A group of airports across Oregon is set to receive more than $3 million in federal funding to support infrastructure upgrades. The funding, backed by Oregon’s congressional delegation including Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, will be distributed among about ten airports statewide. These investments are intended to address a range of needs such as equipment upgrades, runway and taxiway improvements, and other safety-related enhancements that help maintain reliable operations at smaller regional and community airports that support general and business aviation.

The projects are expected to strengthen the role of local airports as essential transportation hubs, particularly in rural areas where they support business activity, emergency response, and regional connectivity. Officials emphasized that federal support is critical for sustaining airport operations and ensuring long-term economic benefits, noting that many facilities rely on such funding for maintenance and modernization. Overall, the initiative reflects continued federal efforts to bolster aviation infrastructure while improving safety and accessibility across the state.

While the commercial airlines only serve about 10% of the nation’s 5,400 public-use airports, business aviation can reach them all – including those in small towns and rural communities with little or no airline access. Business aviation is a connectivity lifeline in these communities, ensuring not just a link for businesses located outside metropolitan areas, but for ensuring civil, emergency and other vital public services.
