Signature Aviation has officially started construction on a new hangar and office complex at Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport in Virginia, representing an investment of over $10 million.

The business aviation service company, which has maintained operations at the airfield since 1957, designed the expansion to include a 22,000-square-foot hangar featuring a 28-foot door tailored to house modern, large-cabin business aircraft. Additionally, the development features an integrated 3,000-square-foot workspace and a 14-vehicle parking area, with local contractor Lionberger Construction managing the build toward an anticipated completion date in 2027.

This expansion aligns with a broader modernization initiative at the airfield, which previously saw the completion of a self-serve fuel station and a rebuilt fuel containment facility in late 2025. Company executives and regional airport authorities noted that the project modernizes local infrastructure to fulfill direct consumer demand while signaling economic growth and investment in the surrounding region.

Mike Stewart, president and CEO of the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, said: “Signature’s investments reflect their confidence in the future business needs of our region and will make ROA more attractive to the aircraft owners, operators and businesses that rely on this airport.”

Independent studies show that business aviation helps support 1.3 million American jobs and contributes $340 billion to the U.S. economy.
