Two high school students from Master’s Academy recently completed an intensive, week-long vocational training program at the Vero Beach headquarters of Piper Aircraft. The hands-on initiative, part of the manufacturer’s annual Externship Program, immersed the rising seniors in multiple facets of the aerospace industry, including engineering, assembly, quality control, and flight operations. By working directly alongside industry professionals in a supervised setting, the participants learned core technical skills vital to aircraft construction, such as sheet metal assembly and riveting techniques, while studying industrial safety protocols and precision craftsmanship.

The educational partnership aims to expose local students to the practical application of classroom concepts like physics and technology while highlighting the diverse array of career paths available in the aerospace sector. In addition to practicing physical manufacturing skills, the students operated flight simulators, toured the factory grounds, and engaged with workforce development teams representing various internal departments. Company leadership and school officials emphasized that the immersive program helps cultivate the next generation of industrial talent by showing younger generations how specialized teamwork and close communication are essential to building operational aircraft.

Independent studies show that business aviation helps support 1.3 million American jobs and contributes $340 billion to the U.S. economy.
