Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announced nearly $19 million in state funding to support dozens of aviation infrastructure projects across the state, targeting improvements at public-use general aviation airports. The initiative, administered through the Kansas Airport Improvement Program, drew more than 100 applications requesting significantly higher funding than available, reflecting strong demand for upgrades. Selected projects focus on essential needs such as runway and pavement repairs, safety enhancements, and expanded capabilities for services like air ambulance operations.

Through the use of small, community airports like those receiving the new funding, business aviation connects countless towns and rural areas across the U.S. – locations that often have little or no airline service – with opportunities in the major metropolitan areas.

When combined with local matching funds, the new Kansas investment is expected to generate a much larger total impact, helping modernize airport facilities and strengthen regional connectivity.

Officials emphasized that maintaining and improving airport infrastructure plays a key role in supporting local economies, emergency response capabilities, and transportation access, particularly in rural communities.
