Massport, the operator of the vital general aviation airport Hanscom Field, has officially introduced the Massachusetts and New England Regional SAF Hub, a collaborative center designed to champion the development and distribution of sustainable aviation fuel. This new organization brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including major airlines like Delta Air Lines, researchers from MIT, and various government officials, to streamline the transition to cleaner energy. By coordinating efforts across the aviation sector, the initiative aims to build the infrastructure and policy framework required to make sustainable aviation fuel more accessible throughout the region.
The formation of this hub was recently highlighted during a specialized panel at the ClimaTech conference, where industry experts discussed logistical strategies and necessary legislative support, such as a potential SAF tax credit. The primary objective is to establish a robust supply chain for renewable fuels at Boston Logan International Airport and beyond. Through the creation of a Northeast Regional SAF Alliance, Massport intends to drive the innovation and large-scale production needed to meet long-term sustainability targets for flight operators.
Sustainable aviation fuels are key to U.S. energy independence and generate job creation in tech, agriculture and other parts of the economy.
