Tampa Executive Airport (VDF) is undergoing a substantial expansion of its aircraft storage capacity through the construction of four new hangars, with completion targeted for 2026. This $6.4 million initiative represents the largest investment in general aviation infrastructure ever managed by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority at this facility.

By adding 42,000 square feet of space, the project is designed to satisfy increasing demand for aircraft housing, while simultaneously stimulating regional economic development. One of these structures has already been finished, while the others are in various stages of construction, involving both the airport’s fixed-base operator, Skyport, and private developers.

In addition to these new buildings, the local aviation sector is benefiting from wider infrastructure improvements, including the finished reconstruction of primary and secondary runways at Tampa Executive. These upgrades, which included new electrical systems and lighting to accommodate larger aircraft, were supported by substantial funding from the Florida Department of Transportation and federal grants.

Independent studies show that business aviation helps support 1.3 million American jobs and contributes $340 billion to the U.S. economy. Recent studies conclude that Florida airports like VDF create 156,000 jobs with an annual payroll of $7.9 billion, contributing more than $27 billion to the Sunshine State’s economy.
